The 6th most popular social networking site among teens is a blogging website called Tumblr. It first began to develop in 2006 by founders David Karp and Marco Arment. When Tumblr was first launched in February 2007 the website had over 75, 000 users within the first 14 days of it being published; it was a big shock to Karp and Arment. In early June 2012, Tumblr joined in coalition for an advertising campaign with Adidas company; they launched an official soccer blog on Tumblr to promote Addidas as a sports company. Shortly after the collaboration with Addidas, Tumblr decided that there would be now paid advertising on the site. To add to that, on May 20, 2013, Yahoo announced it was going to buy Tumblr for $1.1 billion in cash. However, many Tumblr users were in disagreement and did not like the news which resulted in a petition by the users. They achieved close to 170,000 signatures in oppose to the new agreement. Although the success of the petition, on June 20, 2013, the deal was finalized.

The money making
Up to today, Tumblr has gained over $125 million of funding from different investors and companys around the world, such as Union Square Ventures, Spark Capital, Martin Varsavsky, Krum Capital, and other known investors. In 2012, Tumblr has made up to $13 million in revenue, and with all the success and goals they have achieved, the company is hoping to make $100 million by the end of this year.

On October 1, 2013, Tumblr held over 139.4 million blogs and more than 62.8 billion posts in total on the whole site. As of last month, over 86.1 million posts were created on the site each day. Tumblr visitors are most within the teen and college-aged categories, and most are under the age of 25. Also, Tumblr is most popular with females; in 2011, 53% of visitors were females according to an analysis by AddThis.

With over 199 employees, Tumblr lets you effortlessly share anything from posting text, photos, quotes, links, music, and videos from your browser, phone, desktop, email or wherever you happen to be. You can customize everything on your blog to the way you like it, from color to even background pictures and URL's. Until I researched Tumblr, I had no idea how fast the site had grown in popularity. Personally I don`t use Tumblr that often, but I do have an account. It`s a great site to research a variety of pictures on any subject, quotes, and even videos!

Ranked as the 7th most popular social network among teens, Google takes the spot. Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergei Brin, previous Stanford University students. Founders Page and Brin decided to set up their first data center in Page's dorm to better the website, monitor the activity and begin their new career as website designers. Today, Google is known as the most important, let alone popular search engine around the world.

Later on down the road, Page and Brin decided to build an official company and started looking for investors to help build the company with influence of David Filo, also a student from Stanford. After a big interest in Googles search technology, Sun Microsystems company invested $100,000 in Google, which led them to eventually raise over $1 million! After searching for investors, fundraising and lots of hard work, on September 7th, 1998, Google, Inc. was finally created in a friend's garage in Menlo Park, California where Craig Silverstein was the first employee hired at the company.

Google developed an awesome reputation as a trustworthy source of information; it was serving 500,000 queries a day. With much success, the company later moved from the four walled, not so professional garage to the now mega Googleplex headquarters in Mountain View, California.

The name "Google" originated from a misspelling of "googol". Page and Bring said, "we chose our systems name, Google, because it is a common spelling of googol, or 10100 and fits well with our goal of building very large-scale search engines."

The website was more successful than they had planned; they are surely known for their quick service and reliability and the number of visitors still continues to grow. Google has become a very important search engine around the world. Today, Google has over 7.2 billion page views a day, and profited over $2 billion. I spend a lot of time on Google, asking questions, researching subjects for school, or even looking at pictures and videos. Google provides you with endless information that can be used for anything. Since the beginning, Google was aiming to provide the best user experience possible, and which became a reality!

Behind the scenes of Pinterest
Founded by Ben Sillbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp, Pinterest first started on December 2009, and the site was first launched in March 2010 and was monitored and operated out of a small apartment until the summer of 2011. Not long after the website was launched, it reached 10,000 users, which was an awesome growth in such short amount of time. Early in 2010, Sillmerman tried to interest a New York-based magazine publishing company in buying Pinterest, but unfortunately declined due to a lack of interest. Although, in 2011, Apple launched an app for iPhone's, and turned out to be more successful than planned. To add to that, on August 16th 2011, Time Magazine published an article declaring Pinterest one of the "50 Best Websites of 2011". On December 2011, the site was one of the top 10 largest social networking services.

In January 2012, Pinterest reached over 11.7 million unique visitors, in which most of the sites users were females. Pinterest was now the fastest site to date to reach over 10 million unique visitors. Finally, on May 2012, a Japanese electronic commerce company made a $100 million investment in hopes to better the company. Today, Pinterst has over 53.3 million visitors and has become a $2.5 billion company. Personally, I use Pinterest every day, if not twice a day. I spend a lot of time searching up cool ideas, such as cooking recipes, crafts, even clothing. Every night my mom uses a different recipe she found on Pinterest, and they always turn out great! The site has endless creativity.

Here is a short tutorial on Pinterest to give you an idea of how it works!
