Behind the scenes of Pinterest
Founded by Ben Sillbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp, Pinterest first started on December 2009, and the site was first launched in March 2010 and was monitored and operated out of a small apartment until the summer of 2011. Not long after the website was launched, it reached 10,000 users, which was an awesome growth in such short amount of time. Early in 2010, Sillmerman tried to interest a New York-based magazine publishing company in buying Pinterest, but unfortunately declined due to a lack of interest. Although, in 2011, Apple launched an app for iPhone's, and turned out to be more successful than planned. To add to that, on August 16th 2011, Time Magazine published an article declaring Pinterest one of the "50 Best Websites of 2011". On December 2011, the site was one of the top 10 largest social networking services.
In January 2012, Pinterest reached over 11.7 million unique visitors, in which most of the sites users were females. Pinterest was now the fastest site to date to reach over 10 million unique visitors. Finally, on May 2012, a Japanese electronic commerce company made a $100 million investment in hopes to better the company. Today, Pinterst has over 53.3 million visitors and has become a $2.5 billion company. Personally, I use Pinterest every day, if not twice a day. I spend a lot of time searching up cool ideas, such as cooking recipes, crafts, even clothing. Every night my mom uses a different recipe she found on Pinterest, and they always turn out great! The site has endless creativity.
Here is a short tutorial on Pinterest to give you an idea of how it works!
